With Siri being thoroughly integrated into the latest Apple TV units, it was only a matter of time before Google Assistant made its way to Android TV. That’s what consumers can expect to see in the coming months, as Google announced Assistant will be coming to supported TVs and set-top boxes in a forthcoming update.

With Google Assistant on Android TV you’ll be able to do anything from requesting content to asking the Assistant how long your morning commute will be.

Google Assistant will be coming first to the NVIDIA SHIELD, and can be triggered with the simple command of “OK Google”. Within the next several months, it will also be available on the following devices:

  • AirTV Player
  • All Android TVs in USA running Android 6.0 or higher, including:
    • Sharp Aquos
    • Sony Bravia
    • Xiaomi Mi Box
    • and more

Google has other plans for Assistant this year, mentioning that it will also be coming to smartwatches running Android Wear 2.0, Android-powered in-car infotainment systems and other types of devices through the Embedded Google Assistant SDK.

More details about Google Assistant’s integration with other platforms will be made available during this weekend’s CES in Las Vegas.
